Hey everyone, just got this 2004 330Ci in December and it finally broke down on me.
Pretty sure the water pump failed but just wanted to get a second opinion if you guys think anything else is wrong with it.
Got a few videos of a quick run to make sure it was the water pump, but was surprised by the amount of smoke it made.

There’s no reason not to overhaul the entire cooling system on a car with no service history.

Also be sure to replace all the tensioners and idle pulleys. If you want to make sure that one of them is bad, just remove the belts and start the engine up for a couple of seconds. If the noise goes away then it's one of those pulleys that's bad. INA is the OE provider to BMW for those parts.
You can also spin each accessory and feel how they spin, but to me it sounds like a bad pulley bearing.

I am trying to post a question. I have a 2006 325ci and the overheating idiot light came on. Opened the hood and the fan was not moving. Shut off the engine and discovered the fan was just sitting there in the housing and not attached to the engine. I reattached it (reverse threaded) and it ran fine for 6-7 miles, but now it is overheating. What would cause the fan to come off? If the water pump had seized, wouldn't it still be seized?
Given that you have so much access to the engine right now I would STRONGLY advise an intake refresh. Here is a guide with part numbers and steps. I have done it on three high-mileage e46s and I am very happy.
