Lightbulb BMW 32i 2007 Fault Code Meaning

    Hi,

    Car: BMW 320i 2007 (140,000km)

My car "check engine " indicator was ON when I was driving over 100kmh , around 4800rpm.

Then OBD scanning was done and obtained following faults,

    2CA2 O2 sensor heater circuit (bank1 , sensor1) : Fault during overrun

    2CA3 O2 sensor heater circuit (bank2 , sensor1) : Fault during overrun

Still I didn't reset check engine indicator. Can anyone explain what's wrong with my car and will it be ok after reset?

    Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum!

Sure you could clear the codes to see if they come back, however I think they will. Normally when you get both heater faults at the same time, that would point towards a fuse or relay so be sure to check fuse #78 if your was built after 02/2007. If it was built before that which I am assuming not as you have 2 pre-cat oxygen sensor codes, but for somebody else who may come across this thread it will be fuse #5.

And for the very low possibility that the fuse is good, and the codes do come back, I would replace both oxygen sensors.

    Thanks for your response.

First I'll reset and see and then will check for fuse.

Sometimes things just trip for no reason. I get odd fault codes that have been inside some of the DME's when I do a full scan. All it means is one time that particular sensor didn't pass the BIT (Built in Test) but it still works properly.

Give it some time, besides BMW recommends that you replace your oxygen sensors every 160k km or so depending on the model anyway.

    Weebly,

    This is what you said:

My car "check engine " indicator was ON when I was driving over 100kmh , around 4800rpm.

What gear were you in and for how long were you driving?

Heater circuit is part of the oxygen sensor, to get the engine burning as clean as possible as soon as possible the oxygen sensor has a built in heater so if the fault returns, then most likely the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced
