    BMW E87 116i 2005 - Error 2F44 EWS Preventing Manipulation

    Hi all,

I have been at other forums trying to get some help, but to no avail. Background info, I am by trade a coder/programmer, my father is a ex-mechanic who has owned 3 garage businesses. But BMW are a different breed. I like things pre computer to be fair.

    The car in question is a E87 2005 116i with CAS3.

I will keep this as brief as possible:

    1. Had snow/ice a few weeks back. Car would not start. No crank no start.
    2. Suspected bad starter or bad battery, however as starter was running fine the day previous, presumed poor battery. Tried jump starting to the correct jump posts under bonnet. Nope, still no start.
    3. Replaced battery with new. Registered new battery. Fault still persists. No crank no start.
    4. Hit starter motor with a big long metal thing and hammer. Tried to start. Cranked about 5 times, then died. = Bad starter. Simples, right.
    5. Ordered new starter. Battery disconnected for 2-3 days. New starter fitted. Just about. Those f*cking torx bolts man, almost sheared one of them!
    6. New starter works a treat. Turns over fine. However.. Car will not start. Crank No Start now.
    7. Presumed IMMO trip.
    8. Read errors with tool. Error 2F44 EWS Preventing Manipulation.
    9. Loaded INPA. Went to Engine > Activate > EWS Sync > ERROR IFH-0009 NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT.
    10. Been using INPA for many many months. Previously jumped Pin 7 & 8 on the K+DCAN. Normally works fine.
    11. Tool32. EWS.prg. echselcode_sync_dme. Same error. NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT.
    12. There is another option on INPA under Engine > Activate > CAS Resync. I am dubious about going into this. But... In my mind if I don't have a physical EWS, and it is instead part of the CAS module, that would make sense. So..

Question to those more knowledgeable: As this model does not have a stand alone EWS. Even though the error thrown by INPA refers to EWS. Should I be doing a CAS-DME resync, instead of a EWS-DME resync?

My next move would be to load Tool32, but instead go into CAS.prg and run the command "dme_startwert_abgleich".

Can anyone confirm my thought process please or how best to proceed? I hope some of you are really good experts at coding and what not. As I say I am by profession a programmer and coder, but not on cars!! So same logics but a different animal eh.

    Thanks guys!

Update: Tried the "dme_startwert_abgleich" command in Tool32, took the key out, put it in again and still exactly the same. Same error 24FF.
