Hi all, first post here. I haven't found a new member's introductory thread yet.
I have a 2000 Z3 I bought 2 months ago. The inner driver door grab bar is pulled loose at top. Someone must have tried to take the door panel off and didn't realize there was a screw there and may have just pried and broke the metal mount. I was wondering if there was a fix for this as it's an eye sore. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The upper end of the handle is anchored by a plastic base screwed into the metal door, and a plastic post that is flared behind the door card. Hard pulling eventually breaks the base around the screw head, so the upper end of handle is no longer attached to the door. The plastic post then closes the door by pulling on the door card, and the stress eventually snaps the post.

If you can find all the pieces of the base, it can be glued back together, but the post cannot be re-attached. Perhaps a long sheet metal screw and fender washer could be used to screw the door card into the hole left by the post. I found the pieces of the base and repaired it with epoxy for a spare. The handle is for sale for $40:

I appreciate the quick response. The car is out for paint but at some point I need to address this. My interior is black.
I saw your DIY write up and found it very informative. Thank you!
I've also epoxy glued mine a couple of years ago. No problems since.
Good timing as this happened to me over the weekend. Thanks, Vintage42, for the repair info.
