What's the best place to jack up the front of an E24 using a single Trolley Jack?

Not recommended unless you have a spreader bar to load both horns behind the air dam. You can also use 2 jacks, one on each side front pinch weld jacking pads with pinch weld adapters on the jacks. Or 2 jacks, one on each front horn. Do not put a trolley jack on the rectangular "frame" inside of the pinch weld...it is not a frame and it will bend the tub.

If you have a low-profile jack, you can easily lift the front end on the center of the front subframe. It's just behind the oil pan sump, the steering gear is bolted to it. A high profile jack or a jack with a short body won't work unless you also have ramps or something solid to make some space. Here's a handy illustration of the E24 jacking points.

Of course...don't lift any car without a good set of jack stands...

If I had to use a single jack, I'd do like Dschart says. Use the trolley jack with a slotted rubber biscuit like this on the pinch weld seams at the emergency jacking points on the side of the car. I'f I'm in a hurry, I'll jack up one side, pop a jackstand under the frame, then go to the other side and repeat the process. That way I'll have two solid jackstands holding the car up.

I have a slotted biscuit in each of my cars since lifting the car is part of inspection here. It kills to see a car lifted on the engine support rails that are then all bent. I do what DesktopDave does but i have a 2 foot piece of pressure treated 2x6 that goes between jack and subframe.
