Intermitten Trip Meter functionality

Hi,

The tip meter in my 84 318i only works sometimes. I have already replaced the gears and the actual odometer moves and reads fine. I have also replaced the SI board batteries with new ones. Its kind of weird that only one of them works right?

I have taken the cluster out to inspect the gears and they look fine. The tripmeter will work the first time I drive it after I put the cluster back into the car but on subsequent drives it will not work. The odometer works every time.

Any suggestions?

The tripmeter? I only reset it because it wasn't ticking over correctly.

I'll take it apart again and have a look. I can hear it ticking/skipping while I'm driving so maybe the shaft got misaligned.
