Found this in my oil filter housing...any ideas?

Dropped my pan and while pulling the oil filter, I found a degraded rubber ring in my filter housing. Any ideas what it is?

Looks like the rubber seal from one end of oil filter. Which brand OF are you using?

The end pieces of the filters sometimes stay attached to the filter cap, Did the filter look like it was compressed?

Either way, you are better off, now that you found it and removed it.

Thanks everyone. Just wanted to make sure nothing is damaged that would require me to replace the whole unit.
