Hey guys so I just picked up this BMW n it initially had an oil leak so I looked up a step by step vid n fixed it n the car ran smooth for a bit then it started to rev a lot so I replaced the valve cover gasket with an Elring gasket instead of victor reinz because apparently Elring sits in better, so I changed it n ever since my car will run for 5 seconds then shut down. As far as I know I hooked every sensor back up n put everything back the way it was, the car was literally running smooth n i didnt even drive it yet then the next day it started to rev up like it was taking in air so I changed the gasket again with an Elring, now it wants to shut off randomly. I also did hook up my battery charger overnight n that didnt change anything, still shuts off. I bought a code reader n I'm gonna hook it up n see what it tells me as well. Any thoughts on wat it might be? Did something really coincidentally go while I was working on it or did i just screw up when putting things back together?
Sounds like a large vacuum leak. Which probably means you did something wrong putting it back together. Check your work. Specifically around the back corners of the valve cover, and the vent line connected to it.
By the way, I would never use any gasket other than OEM BMW. They're cheap anyway. I've seen Victor Reinz gaskets leak oil even when they are brand new.

I followed a step by step vid from a BMW mechanic n he said Elring is the one to use thats y I swapped my victor reinz gasket with the Elring cause the victor reinz started to run smooth but then started revving high on it's own that's how I knew I had a massive air leak but the car stayed on it didnt shut off, now it wont stay on for longer than 5 seconds
Well clearly something was done improperly or broken. Now you have to figure out what it is, or take it to a competent BMW technician.
