97 740IL with 42,000 original miles

So today I was asked if I had any interest in another E38. Its a 1997(built 6/96) 740IL, black with grey interior, cold weather package, heated steering wheel, ski bag, sunshades... Original 1 owner with 42,000 miles on it. Anyone interested? What's it worth?

That's a BaT worthy e38 at that mileage! Check the sales of prefacelifts on there to get a good idea...

Even at that low miles it can be a clunker. Ask me how I know! If it is in excellent shape it’s worth the $10k. If it’s got rust underneath from sitting and the engine sound like crap it’s not woth much. BAT will only accept the very good E38s.

Yeah, I think these things are getting old enough that the mileage doesn't really matter much unless it's just crazy high. (Or near zero because it's been stored in a nitrogen filled bubble) But even if you find one that has low mileage, that almost certainly means it was just sitting around for a decent portion of its life, and these things do. not. like. to. sit. Yeah, you might not have to worry about TCGs for a while, but there's a million other fiddly bits on these cars that are likely to be problematic instead. Unless you can verify the "little old lady drove it once a week to her hair appointment" story, I wouldn't be too excited over low mileage. Lots of things deteriorate as a factor of time, more so than use. That said, it sounds like a nice vehicle if you can pick it up cheap.

Hey all,
So I bought the 97 740IL with 42,xxx miles. I really have no intention of keeping it, I just want to sell it on, make a little profit and hopefully save another e38. Story goes like this...I bought it from the son of the original owner who passed away. He only used it as a road car to visit his son in college in Iowa. Anyway, it mainly sat in the garage under a car cover(included in sale). If I didn't buy it he was going to either donate it or give it to his teenage kid!! Obviously I couldn't let either of those scenarios play out because we all know the end fate if either of them happened. Here's what I know:

-Runs and drives great
-Instrument cluster pixel all good
-Original owner(family) bought new here in Lincoln Nebraska
-42,742 miles on it
-Original window sticker and IN-TRANSITS showing the owners name
-Jet Black with Grey Leather
-Cold weather package
-Rear sunshades
-Heated seats and steering wheel
-Premium sound(DSP)

Known issues:
-Right front fender damage
-Right front headlight washer missing
-Crack in top center of front bumper cover
-Headliner drooping in rear
-Glove box latch broke but opens
-Pixels in HVAC control panel scrambled

Just needs some love!

Update on the '97..Here were the know issues:

-Right front fender damage
-Right front headlight washer missing
-Crack in top center of front bumper cover
-Headliner drooping in rear
-Glove box latch broke but opens
-Pixels in HVAC control panel scrambled

Now fixed:

-Right front fender
-Headlight washer nozzle
-Front bumper
-HVAC display
-Glove Box Latch

Anyone interested in this LOW mileage E38?
