2005 Z4 Cause of smoke...picture...plz look

Hi!
Car is running fine but smokes from engine. Oil (I think) is dropping down. See the arrow on one of the Pics. Could this be engine gasket leakIMG_6521.jpgIMG_6517.jpg ?Thank you for your time !

Valve cover gasket or cracked plastic valve cover

You need to do a valve cover gasket replacement.

The Vanos is attached to the front of the engine on this engine version. The “joint” creates a pathway for an oil leak at this particular point. When you replace the gasket you need to put a “dab” of RTV specifically on top of this joint.

There are videos on replacing the gasket which I suggest you review.

...and I'd suggest buying the entire cover kit that comes with all the needed gaskets(cover, valvetronic seal, plug sleeves and bolts). iirc its around $400?
There is part of the PCV in that corner of cover that leaked after I replaced just the gasket.

If you didn’t put a dab of RTV on the joint created by the VANOS it will leak.

BTW the TIS instructions specifically call for RTV on the VANOS joints.

I have a ‘04 myself and have done the gasket replacement more than once.
