I recently purchased a 1997 840 Ci - Arctic Silver exterior with an interior of Silver-Grey Nappa leather. I am looking for the forums advise and expertise to help inform and resource the following initial items which are either missing or need repair/replacing?
1) Sun Roof Outer Panel (rust spots around sunroof edge - one spot is quite deep corrosion) - since the roof of the vehicle will need respraying, I am looking for used panel since a new panel seems excessive prices - well come to owning an E31?.
2) Floor Matts - missing - are there a recommended substitute to OEM?
3) CD Changer - the CD changer which came with the vehicle was previously removed, control button facia is missing as well as CD cartridge missing - I suspect the CD charger does not work so needs replacing.....
4) Warning Triangle - since the item is now unavailable, is there a similar BMW model which can be substituted and easily available?
5) Trunk Lid (interior) light lens x2 missing - are these readily available?
I appreciate in advance for your support and advise....
Cheers,
Speedy=G
I bought warning triangle part # 27R030004 for my toolbox. Was shipped from Europe from an eBay seller there

Congrats on your purchase. On your want list, make sure to have a list going, then add LOTS of extra lines - they will fill up quickly as "mission creep" tends to infect all owners of the E31.
Also, consider joining out BMWCCA Chapter - the E31 Chapter. Many great folks, and lots of excellent information.

I got a great set of non-OEM 8-Series mats on Ebay years ago, great quality. 'BMW' was embroided on them but the seller was asked to remove the embroidery on the mats at a later point. I believe he still sells them on Ebay.

One of the best websites for genuine BMW part numbers is realoem.com
Once you have researched realoem and you have the part numbers you are searching for, it's easy enough to find BMW dealers who sell parts on line- if the item is still available from BMW. One of the best supporters of the E31 community for genuine BMW parts is Gault BMW in New York. There are other BMW dealers, as well, that come highly recommended on this forum. I echo RogBMW's comment above - you should consider joining the BMWCCA- E31 Chapter. We are very active within the E31 community in North America and Europe. The E31 Chapter quarterly newsletter always looks good and our revised website has lots of info and is updated monthly. http://www.bmwccae31.com/
Of course, you'll always find plenty of E31 technical assistance and advice on this forum!

You might consider upgrading your head unit to a CD43, which has a single slot CD player rather than a cassette deck buit into it. It was a period upgrade, and can be further enhanced with a bluetooth adapter that not only lets you use your smartphone with it, but with a Sirius XM subscriptionyou can also have satellite radio channels available.
Look on eBay, and if you pursue it try to get one that says"BMW Business CD" on it, which was BMW's nomenclature, rather than one that has a Motorpsort emblem applied to cover up the Volvo branding--Volvo also used this model.

Good to know..... thanks for your advise!
Thank you for your reply - one of the reasons for my purchase of quite a complex vehicle is the established network of enthusiasts willing to offer advise and support - thank you - I have a lot of reading and learning :-)
The only thing I’ll add is that if you see a part that you need, buy it, because if you try to buy it a few months or a year later, it may be no longer available.
I’ve made that mistake a couple of times already

I am selling an interior console trim kit in gorgeous tiger eye wood for 8 series BMW. The wood is in stellar condition, it was a spare kit that came with the car. Includes trim for the center console, center storage container and ashtray cover. I have photos I can show you and here is a link to a similar kit:
