Hello Everyone!,
I am new on here and trying to help my dad with his car issues. He lives in Cameroon,West Africa and so doesn't have access to proper bmw body shops. Also I am a 27yr old female and I do not know much about cars so I will do my best to relay the message. The car's alternator overheated and got damaged. He replaced it with a second hand alternator. To his knowledge the battery is fine. The charging voltage with headlights one is 12.5v and 13.5 when switched off. He used an OBD2 tool to scan the car and only got p0444 code which he says was was probably when he checked the radiator and forgot to erase the code. The current issue is the windshield wipers, horns, panel lights and windows are not working. The cars starts and runs fine but he can't activate the windshields, of open/close the windows etc. He asked me to call body shops here in the US to find out about a maintenance database or software but they aren't willing to give out much info and just want me to bring the car over which I obviously can't. Has this happened to anybody before and can anybody suggest ways to troubleshoot the issue?
Thanks
Is the car an E46 model? 2006 E46 was produced but also the newer series 2006 - 2012 E90, E91, E92, E93.
Did he already check the fuses for the items not working?

Oh ok, thank you!
Hi Fifi Welcome to the forum from New Zealand.
There will be trouble codes stored in various modules/computers in the car that will help us in the diagnosis. A generic OBD2 scanner will only read the engine trouble codes. He will need to get hold of a good scanner with BMW software to read the trouble codes in the other modules. The cheapest is to install BMW Standard Tools (free) on a windows laptop or surface pro and buy the cheap cable to hook up to the car. Here is a link to the software. https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/...tools.1274003/

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
Thank you so much Muzz258. I think this is the software he was asking about. I will pass the message over to him
