    Question Camshaft position sensor error

Hi, everybody!Help me please to determine what is my problem sensor. My car is 2001 Z3 2.5i. Sometimes it takes about 2-3 seconds to start the engine. Mostly when the engine is warm but there was one time when it was cold. I knew it can be the camshaft position sensor.I read errors and got this error text:65 NW_E- ErrorError frequency : 4Logistic counter: 40N_32Engine state = startTOILVBaufgetreten vor (rel. BZ)224.00 rpm2.00 -17.27 Grad C11.02 V2.50 h---------Signal not plausibleError to relevantError debounceError currently not availablesporadic ErrorErrorcode: 41 B8 04 28 07 02 52 6C 67 09================================================ =============OK. I connected to the ECU and with INPA checked the VANON Status. I found an information, that when I'm raising up the revs I can see the camshaft's angle changing. But I didn't see any changing doing that. All the values are like on pause. Than I decided to check both sensors manually. I checked their voltages, they were good. I checked both sensors, they were good too. I took off the exhaust sensor and checked it with a wrench, and the inlet sensor I had to check with the crankshaft rotation, because it is too complicated to take it off. So, I have two good sensors and the errorcode saying that one of them is not good. Both of sensors are aftermarket. Which one is faulty?

Change the inlet cam shaft sensor. That is the one with the error code. Use good quality sensors. After market ones don't last long or give problems.

If the inlet cam shaft sensor is giving problems, the engine computer (DME) will turn off the VANOS control and park the VANOS in a safe place because it does not know where the cam shafts are. You will be down on performance while this is occuring.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.

Thanks for this info. Can you please explain me how did you understand that it is the inlet sensor?

Fault code 65 (decimal) is the normal inlet cam shaft fault code. The parked VANOS numbers are also typical of an inlet cam shaft fault.

Thank you so much. I replaced the inlet camshaft sensor and now the error is gone!
