Hey everyone. I need your guys' help... again. I plan on changing out my small screen radio/navigation monitor for the widescreen one. It seems that there are two main types (mark 3 and mark 4). What is the difference between the two? And how do I know which one I need to get? Is there a cut off month/year similar to what we see in the types of airbags for the E38? From my understanding from the research I've done online, the E53 and E39's widescreen is also compatible. My navigation does not work for some reason (perhaps because the navigation disc was not included) but I do not really care since I don't need navigation nor do I ever use it. It's just the small screen is becoming an annoyance since it looks uglier than the widescreen. I was considering doing the business radio conversion, but it seems like too much work since a new wiring harness will need to be bought, and the possibility of the speakers not working.
Edit: Nevermind. I found what I was looking for. Took more digging in older threads from the Range Rover site.

Widescreen in Dash is just widescreen. The NAV is the unit in the trunk. Mk III is CD based, Mk IV is DVD based - best of the last. I will say that the Widescreen never liked the old MK II unit I had. I had to go to MK III to get an ok screen result
Widescreen not compatible with MkII. Actually, early widescreen also has some minor issues with MkIV, it likes the Mk III. If your widescreen has the grey/blue screen and the yellow/brown screen options only, its an early widescreen. I have one, switched to a MkIV and mostly works great, but I also have a BlueBus BT system, and that seems to have some minor issues with the incompatibility, but 98% works great.

Well, that makes sense. I thought the widescreens had different ports for each mark. Well, I went back into my trunk and noticed that my navigation unit uses a DVD. Seems like I have a Mk IV. Will I ever use the navigation? Probably not.
The nicest thing about these old navs is that unlike your phone nav you can enter a destination and they will work in areas with no cell service.
The MKII can be made to work with the widescreen monitor -- I've done it . You just have to coax the monitor and the Navi to negotiate their aspect ratios (booting the Navi after the BMBT helps).
The issue your BlueBus has writing to the screen sometimes is actually because you likely have a C43 in the trunk. The C43 uses a view layout that isn't compatible with the BlueBus's menu system, so I have to trick the Navi into clearing the screen without asking the C43 for an update. Using the radio overlay button should solve this 100%
