    Cleaning Engine Block

So I've gone ahead and started the re-built of my M70 engine and well not remotely as bad as I imagined.

2 Headbolts sheered off but otherwise seemingly in decent shape. Heads sent to a specialist for complete check and change of the usual suspects.

While waiting I'm going to start re-assembly and upgrading (twin turbo) but before doing that I'm going to clean and a quick polish the aluminum (possibly some grinding well...just a bit not everything needs a mirror finish ) including the block because it will be slightly more visible in my modified 850 than normal install and I like shiny aluminum.

So is it an insane idea to clean/polish the engine with pistons and crank, pistons and so on in? or is it as I guess more reasonable to do a lot of extra work and remove everything and then tediously reinstall it even if there is nothing wrong with the bottom end.

What manifolds are you using for your Turbo set up?

No way I'd disassemble a perfectly good bottom end. Use high quality masking tape and paper to mask off any surface or holes you don't want to contaminate. Masking should take less time than to R&I everything.

Basically the two pipes leading from the original manifold turned in the same direction, cut and welded to a turbo plate. Its slightly more involved but not much really.

Seen it give very good results in the 450-600 hp range and I'm only going to add 0.4-0.8 bar boost so no monster build is necessary.
