    E36 M3 Driveshaft Lock Collar

Hey guys so I received my remanufactured e36 m3 driveshaft today and the lock collar seems to be on super tight and I cant seem to loosen it with some pliers, and my driveshaft is a tiny bit too short and its causing the flex disc to be pulled both directions. As in the driveshaft and transmission. Any suggestions to loosen the lock collar?

I've used a strap wrench ( a good one, not a HF plastic/rubber one), and/or pipe wrenches. Careful with pipe wrenches.

Interested to know where you got it. It shouldn't be that tight (obviously). I have always just used a pipe wrench on mine.

I own a very large Cresent wrench, worked very well on my lock collar.

Is this a four bolt or six bolt driveshaft? On four bolt shafts I use a pipe wrench to separate the driveshaft halves. You may need to bolt the shaft end to a long wooden board orientated perpendicular to the shaft so that the shaft doesn't rotate when trying to loosen the collar nut.

There is no such thing on 6-bolt. This is an obvious 4-bolt question.

+1 to an adequate crescent wrench. I mainly deal with 6-bolt, but don’t the 4-bolt halves still slide when the nut is tight? Given it is a plastic bushing, I would think that slip is the function and the collar is there to dial out slop.
