Hi Guys, I have encountered a nonsensical issue with programming a key to my E46 320ci convertible.
Up until 3 days ago I had a decade old key (sole key), working perfectly with both the EWS and central locking systems, this key unfortunately was damaged (dropped), and was no longer recognised in the ignition as a valid key, also losing its ability to remote unlock the car.
I have since purchased a brand new key from a BMW dealership, it starts the car in the ignition (Brilliant!).
yet i've followed every number of instructions and videos, even on the phone from the dealership, on how to reprogram the key to work with the central locking, and not a single combination of button presses and key turns is working.
Im certain the car is receiving a radio signal from the key, there just seems to be something stopping it from programming a new key into its memory, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. can anyone cast a bit of light on what might cause this? if there is some kind of fuse or fault that might affect key programming? i'm stumped.
Thanks for reading!
Ok I have solved it after much trial and error, If anyone else has this issue on the convertible it was the fuse for the anti theft system.
fuses 24 and 67 need to be present and alive!
