Late 540i/6 question

Asking the m62tu - watercooled Alternator guys - does the coolant flow out of the alt, back into the radiator? On the slushbox cars, the return is thru the trans cooler. We are looking at using the older trans cooler, but the question of how the coolant flows has come up. Do the manual cars not have a loop back to the radiator?

Coolant flows thru the hose connected to the top of the alt case and back thru the channel inside the lower timing cover....I think.

Thx Jim. I guess that makes sense. And it must somehow get back to the water pump.

The “I think” part was for the direction of flow.
There is a hollowed out channel on the inside of the lower timing cover the goes from the case the alt fits into to the water pump housing.
