anytime the air bag is deployed i believe it 'totals' a car regardless of damage.

That’s not true. Usually the damage has to exceed the value of the car or 70-75% value of the car.

Precisely, I fought against the decision but the airbag and the car being over 15 years old was their reasoning behind the loss.
