    Pentosin chf 11s or dextron VI

    After our high pressure steering hose blew... that was on 9/23... the 7 was sent to the dealership... custom made hose, and asked them to replace all the PS ho$e$, still cheaper than a new car.
    Then as irony struck somehow, someone managed to short the alternator and fried the B+ cable... which had to be shipped from Germany, so a loaner for the duration of the snafu...
    Today the car is ready... and looking at the repair bill, I see ATF Dextron VI.... too late to call, but IIRC it is pentosin 11S, I still have a quart on the shelf...

    I did a quick search and all I found is Dextron VI instead of Dextron III but that does not apply to the E32 model!

    what do you think.... I will probably ask for pentosin as it is specs on the manual... but curious about your knowledge.

    does it have LAD? If so, then Pentosin CHF 11S, otherwise any ATF will do. I checked the German language user manual for the 1993/4 E32 V8 and V12 , page 78 says

    Servolenkung - Ölstand prüfen
    Bei stehendem Motor Behälterdeckel aufschrauben und wieder einstecken. Der Ölstand muß zwischen den Markierungen am Meßstab liegen. Eventuell ATF-Öl nachfüllen. Motor laufen lassen. Eventuell Öl nachfüllen, bis der Ölstand zwischen den Markierungen liegt. Motor abstellen. Der Ölstand darf ca. 5 mm über die obere Markierung ansteigen. Behälterdeckel zuschrauben

    Bei stehendem Motor Rändelmutter lösen, Behälterdeckel abnehmen. Der Ölstand muß bei leerem Fahrzeug knapp (ca. 5 mm) über dem Siebboden liegen. Eventuell Ölstand berichtigen. Dazu unbedingt Pentosin CHF 11S oder, falls nicht erhältlich, LHM verwenden. Bei beladenem Fahrzeug 0,25 I Pentosin CHF 11S einfüllen, aber Befüllung abbrechen, wenn der Ölstand den Siebboden erreicht. Bei leerem Fahrzeug Ölstand nochmals nachprüfen. Behälterdeckel aufsetzen, Rändelmutter festziehen.

    Meldung »Oelstand Lenkhilfe“ in Check Control: BMW Service aufsuchen. Im Notfall bei stehendem Motor Rändelmutter lösen, Behälterdeckel abnehmen und 0,25 I Pentosin CHF 11S oder, falls nicht erhältlich, LHM einfüllen. Bleibt die Check Control-Meldung bestehen, weitere 0,25 I einfüllen. Behälterdeckel aufsetzen, Rändelmutter festziehen. Auf richtigen Sitz des Deckels achten

    some E32 use ATF depending on the car spec., see my above comments and copies from the E32 user manual. Not only ATF and/or CHF11S is used, but also CHF 7.1 and 7.1 should not be mixed with 11S.

    My E32 735 12/87 calls for ATF in the hydraulic brake/power steering system. There is a sticker on the reservoir cap that says so. I don’t have the LAD/SLS system

    yes, was confirmed 2 months ago by Johan on BB, he had a 1987 E32 735i before he bought the 750: "Actually the early M30 used ATF in combination with the H31." Author: Johan750, Posted on: 2020-08-20

    as for Pentosin: Every Pentosin container has a warning printed on the can: "Very important: never mix Pentosin CHF 7.1 with CHF 11S"

    As CHF 7.1 is NLA, Febi Bilstein has a replacement for it.

    Thank you very much for such a rapid and complete replies to all in the group.

    No LAD. I could not double check , as the manual is in the vehicle, and avoiding to be obnoxious when talking to the manager!

    Also to add to the story longer... the shop replaced the alternator and the B+ cable at no charge, the tech must have shorted the alternator, frying the B+ cable and probably some diodes.... We will have to check that all electronics are working...
