    2013 328i Sport, first BMW...a few questions

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance for any help offered! Also, I apologize for the long post, this is my first BMW and I am happy to be here!

I recently purchased a 2013 328i Sport with around 67K on the odometer. Car has been a southern car for 95% of its life. Spotty history as far as service according to Carfax/Dealer history, but it definitely has not been neglected. I had the BMW Dealership my brother works at give the car a pre-purchase inspection and it passed with flying colors. I live out of state, so I wanted to make sure it was road worthy before I make the trip....Upstream o2 sensor fault popped on right after I got it home (go figure), and took it to a local BMW Indy specialist, and they thought it could be a leak. Did a smoke test and it passed, better than they expected. Sensor replacement was all it was. I did that and it's been great ever since...

    Now for the questions...

    1. I am fully aware of the timing chain failures. Mine was built 3/2013. The car runs great, doesn't make any loud noises or whines when revved or driven, but I am beyond paranoid about it. I can see some scoring on the chain, but not sure if it's normal, or not. There is no slack in the chain when I try to wiggle it. I am able to get the timing chain replaced through my brothers dealership for around $1200 with the employee discount, parts and labor included but I need to make the 10 hour drive back. This is obviously a no-brainer, but my question is, is there ANYTHING else that should be replaced around this time that is prone to go around this time while they are in the engine? Also, I am aware of the extended warranty. The local dealership near me where total jerks about helping me out with the repair, and quoted me almost $5K WITH a discount. They said that my time did not fall under the extended warranty. I am fine with paying $1200, and I don't care to fight since I am not currently having any issues, and they won't just do it to make me feel better. I totally get it.

    2. I have tried to find answers to this, but am awfully confused. I have just the basic Bluetooth for phone calls and Sirius. If I wanted to add factory Nav, is it a simple process like adding the ComBox (buying one used for under $200) and some wiring and coding? Or is it not worth it and too labor intensive? I did see the MMI units that can be added for Android Auto integration and I am not opposed to that, but just trying to keep it factory if possible. I saw some that you can replace the screen and Android is integrated, but they seem to bypass the factory bluetooth for calls, and they leave a lot to be desired as far as quality. Anyone have any first hand experience with any of this?

    3. So, the M Sport front/rear bumper conversion that is offered by Kies and other sites.... Has anyone done it? Is it really a simple install? Did the bumpers need any modification? Or is it pretty dang close to factory fit, and just needs painted? I am thinking of doing that. It appears that the factory OEM M sport bumpers won't fit because the connections are not the same?

Thanks again for any help and sorry for the long post, just trying to be descriptive!

    Welcome to the Forum!

Yes, just like the VW 2.0 TSI motors, the N-20 has problems with the timing chain stretching or even busting, which is rare. Normally you will see the EML light come on and get timing faults, like the VANOS cannot regulate or similar. By the time you hear the chain rattle, it just might be too late. 1.2k isn't bad at all for I am sure that kit comes with the chain, guide rails, sprockets and tensioner.

I am not sure if it's just plug and play with an upgraded navigation system, for at times BMW will only put what's ordered into the car. Do you have the little trunk badges for pre-wired stuff like the alarm system? If you then yes, but you will still be looking at getting it coded for your car and such, good time while getting the chain replaced to get that done too.

Don't know much about #3, but the bumper are just skins, and have a dozen or so bolts holding them on. On the front bumper, where it mounts into the fender are 2 8mm bolts, while one is easy, the other is a real PITA to get to.

FYI - nothing wrong with a long post, better to have too much information than not enough.
