Lightbulb BMW 728I - fuel tank replacement? does 740i fit?

Hello, so i bought my car yesterday (bmw 728i) and the owner didn't tell me that the fuel tank is busted. Well i found out after i filled the tank with 80L and all night/day it have been emptying my tank. I can't located exactly where it is but someone called the fire-department for it.. More then 30L out on the street! Awesome....

Alright down to replacement, i know this model is rare and it's hard to find parts for it. And the tank is similare to other tanks in E38 series beside some small things if i'm not informed wrong? The 95L tank wont work what others have told me but maybe the 85L tank from 740i or any other E38 car? if it even have a 85l? The OEM partnumber only indicates that no other tanks fits 728 besides 728 tanks... But after close inspection they look similare.

    OEM: 16111183145

If anyone have any idea what tank i can replace my old one with please... i can't spend 500€ for a freaking tank + 200€ to the shop.. already spent 2 much on this car because not alot of em exist where i live..

    All the best!

Comparing them on Realoem, they look the same as far as the hookups. I put an 85L tank in my '96 740iL. It had SLS and those cars use the 95L from factory. The 85L lined up fine, I just had to buy the 85L straps to hold the tank in place properly. I would think you could make it work but I guess if I was in your position, it would concern me that the same size tank does not cross reference either way with the 740iL.

    See my sig
It will fit/work fine on 728i, you just need the piping (which is on top of tank) from 728i, because it's on other side of the car.

I put new aftermarket tank for mine that was for 740i/750i...
