"Malfunction in Drive" ?????

I was at a light the other day and the car went into neutral. Put it in drive and kept driving no warning lights or messages. Got close to home that evening and message popped up and said "malfunction in drive". Turned the car off drove it and it drove fine no problems whatsoever, my daughter drove it no problems whatsoever. No messages nothing. Today I go get in the car to leave and bam " malfunction in drive" now its coming on all the time. Any of you had any ideas car is a 2008 bmw 535i. Could it be low on fluid? How do I check this ?

The car drives perfectly when the message comes on. No difference at all.

Either use INPA, etc, to scan all modules yourself for stored codes, or get to someone that can, cuz it's not worth your time and effort throwing random parts or service at any car until you know where the start.
