How much did you pay for your rollcage

Hello everyone, I'm just curious if you guys are willing to share, how much did you guys pay for your cage? 6 point, 8 point, 10 point...
Im starting a cage build at the moment for a friend, 1.750 x 0.120 dom tube, x brace main hoop, x rear bars, x door bars, halo, intrusion bars, dash bar, diagonal roof bar, taco gussets on all x points, dimple gussets on a and b pillars, rear strut tower brace, painting the cage, building him aluminum diamond plate floor panels for driver and passenger floors... he is a very good friend and im charging he $3,200 for everything.
Now a new guy opened shop in the next town over, he is offering 6 point cages for $500, 8 point cages for $700 and adding $15 per gusset. + $150 if you want it chromoly... he claims he does all his own bending. I personally use a jd2 bender and chromoly isn't an option to bend as you need a mandrel bender for it.
Am I missing something here? I work with a great metal supplier, get very good pricing on material and yet I couldn't even consider doing a cage for what he is charging.
Sorry for the long post but I'm just dumbfounded. Thanks everyone

My car came with the cage already in place, but I got the build receipts from the original owner. Turner built the cage with A-pillar panels, gussets, painting, floorboards, rear bulkhead barrier, package shelf cover, hooks for nets, glove box cover, etc. Pricing for labor and materials was well over $5K and that was in '07!!

The pricing claimed by the new shop in your area seems WAY too good to be true. Maybe he's offering to work at a huge loss to establish some clientele, or maybe it's some kind of bait-and-switch deal? As much as I like saving money, I'd be very wary. Your own pricing is on the bottom end of the range I've heard people quoting locally, but within the realm of being believable at least.

That sounds silly cheap ... hahaha $500 for a 6 point cage? I think the material costs about that! I's consider minimum 2k a decent "cheap" cage.

We had 2 cages built, an e46 (4000 CAD), and a vette (3500 CAD). Those were very well done, and we'd happily pay that again for the quality of work we got.

I did go what I thought was low pricing on this one as he is one of my closest friends, he owns a repair and is big into the new England drift scene so its kinda in my benefit also that way he helps get my name and work out there more.
He sent me these screen shots because I was skeptical when I heard about this other guy. At the end of the day if people can get a cage done cheaper with that guy I am not against it as long as he does good safe work but he is going to make it hard for guys like me doing cages in the more normal price realm.

$500 for a real 6 point cage (meets sanctioned rules, etc) is charity work, or a bait and switch.

That's my view on this too. Either he is losing money on every cage or the prices he is giving aren't reflecting the final bill.

I won't change my pricing because of this guy because at the end of the day I'm building a safety device that could potentially save someone's life and I refuse to cut corners. And by no means am I saying this guy is cutting corners, I've never seen his work and it may be legit but I couldn't do a proper cage for that price. Its just a bit of a mental blow to what I thought was fair pricing given by myself.

Your pricing seems at least fair, if not very good. Who knows what that other guy is doing...cheap pricing to get his name out there, loosing money, retirement hobby, bait and switch, only does 3 cages a year...don't know. I'd be leery of going with him without seeing a price for my cage, and seeing his work, and a few references.

Agree, I'm always of the mindset allow between $3500 - $5000 for a decent cage depending on how complex (or not), and thats with providing a gutted ready to cage rolling shell.
Cage & interior painting alone can tow the cost a few hundred.

Damn! I've always done my own cages and have done a few for fellow racers / friends. Materials and consumables eat up the better part of a 500$ bill.
3500$ is a reasonable price to do a spec cage. I assume that's just the cage. Interior is already out.

$2750 for six point cage plus driver's anti-intrusion bar and a cross bar to tie the rear shock towers together. 1.750" .120 wall DOM.

This one still had most of the interior and electrical when I got it. Usually I'd ask for it to be as stripped as much as the customer feels comfortable doing before I recieve it for the cage but this one is for a close friend so im going a little above and beyond for him.

Thanks for sharing, you guys have definitely helped reassure me that im at least fair on my pricing and that I'm not alone with wondering how a 6 point can be done for around $500

Hell, a crappy Autopower 4 point bolt-in half cage lists for $779, and they've been producing those for a couple of decades.

Hey guys I'm having problems attaching the YouTube link but please search. This was recently shared with me by a friend about this new company near by. And please understand I'm not trying to knock their work to get more business for myself at all, hell if they can keep doing cages for under $700 that's fine with me but I sure hope they get better with keeping people safe. Anyone considering a rollcage PLEASE do some background research on who is installing it. I'd love for all of us to be able to come home safely from the track.

Why You Should Get A Quality Rollcage And Not A "Deal"

Really?!?! I would have thought he is way more expensive. A cage of that quality in my area is $6-8K.

That is fucking shameful. I hope I never see one of his cages in person.

    Old racer's adage: Got a $50 head? Buy a $50 helmet.

I think the same thing applies to roll cages.

I paid $4700 for a TC Design NASA GTS cage including paint in 2016. It would probably cost more today. I think of it as cheap insurance. Plus it's like looking at a work of art.
