Guys,
I have a weird situation, here is the story....
2 years ago I drove my 335i xdrive from Montreal to Naples, FL.....as the heat from environment kicked in and long drive...I was getting check engine and care would stall and after it cooled off, it would be able to start and go for another sprint....Once in Naples, car ran good great every day...average ride was 45min.
This year, I got orders from my wife, to bring BMW back to Montreal....my goal 8hrs per day...
- Day 1: I could get our of GA, car stalled after 4.5hrs of driving and this time I logged all errors which were: 2AAF, 29DC, 29F2
- Reset codes, and continue the journey....lasted less than 1hr, so I quit for day 1
- Day 2: I had a goal to get to Richmond, VA so I can catch up on lost time....after 5hrs of straight driving same thing same errors......I let car cool down for 3hrs and was able to push it to Delaware. As the temperature is cooler at night and cooler as I drive north, the car was not going into limp mode
- I had backup plan to stop at a bimmershop in Richmond, VA if car got wrost.....
- Night driving helped me push car longer and related issue to heat
- Day 3: Drive mostly at night (cooler) and straight to my home target with min stops for gas, meals, shopping and border crossing and car performed exceptionally well....
Some history, the HPFP was replaced twice before the Florida initial trip.
My questions:
1) since car works good in north regions with normal driving (ie under 4hrs), what can be the root cause for such errors and car going into limp mode?
2) Could it be the low pressure fuel sensor?
3) can the spark plugs and coils, they are original and need to be changed? I have 89k miles.
What a 3 day experience!! Glad to have my 335 bimmer back home.
Here are the error codes with brief description:
Starting my day 1 of 14 of confinement in Canada.
Thanks!
Sergio
There is a problem with the twin turbos and the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) that you should Google. My brother in law has your engine in a 5 Series, and he reports that his car goes nuts with certain throttle positions, he can turn the car off and back on and it is immediately drive able again. I was looking at a 335 E93, and passed on it when I read about the issues. At closing in on 70, the turbo isn't really anything I need, so I settled on the 328 with the N52 engine.
Thanks JD for tip. Glad to be back home and probably will never see the issue in the great white north. When driving from Florida to Montreal, Canada...I reset my error codes every 4hrs and let car cool down, so I can do another 3-4hrs.....as I approached the north eastern states, my bmw is very stable without errors, without limp, without stalling......
Happy to complete my trip in 3 days. Day 1 was a disaster.....
Take care
Sergio
