    1600 engine replacement

My 1600 has a bad engine. But to save money- interested in swapping g a used engine. Wonder if any m10 will do? Also- want to stay with a carburetor not injection. If I go with a later m10 is there anything complicated about swapping the intakes. Thanks. Bill

Yes is the short answer. The intakes have a couple tricky bolts, but nothing crazy. My concern with an upgrade is the carb. Don't know if the 1600 fueler is up to the task. Maybe think about the weber 32/36 with the two hole manifold.

All M10s from the '02 series will fit. With some additional work you can even fit the s14. The blocks are almost identical.
but, yes, all 1.6l, 1.8L, and 2L will bolt in. I would recommend bringing the carburetor with the motor that you are installing as they were jetted differently. Through '73 it was single barrel Solex, in '74 they switched to a dual-barrel. Most have been replaced with a variation of Weber. 32/36 or 38/38 for down draught and DCOE for side drought.

Here you can find ways to identify an engine by its block or head (not all will match)
