This little blue box in pissing me off. What is it?

So, everytime I pull the trim panel under the steering wheel, this little blue box with WAY too much wire falls down in between the pedals. For the first time in 19 years ownership I cut the blue tape holding it together and opened it up. Looks like a "key in ignition" warning buzzer. Has a speaker, couple of diodes and a pin connector.

I don't thonk it works and even if it does I WANT IT GONE!!! Can I cut the wires (without dissabling my car) and get rid of it?

    Thanks in advance

Most likely that's exactly what it is. My Euro has one too but it has never worked in my ownership (no complaints there!). The Federalizers tucked it away semi-neatly but you can tell it was added. I think you'll be fine to disable it and remove.

    Bob,

Well...I drove the car today and it does work. Some kind of add on federalization key in ignition buzzer dohickie. I will clean up the wires and tuck it out of the way.

    Better choice. Probably

IMHO that's not a Federalizer modification, although it is likely from the same time. I'd suspect it's the control unit for some type of immobilizer/car alarm. I'd tuck it away too, until I had some time to chase ll the wires and see what it's designed to do. I tread carefully with those sorts of systems, they're usually a great way to leave you stranded. Most of them were just a hack, universal-type install, all crimps and velcro, not really well thought out.

Those devices are usually wired inline between the ignition switch and DME start circuit wire, or between the DME and fuel pump relay from what I've seen.
    Save the manuals!

    George,

When I bought my 6 in 88' I had the dealership install a Clifford alarm for a whopping $800.
After about 10 yrs the damn thing started giving me problems of not starting. I don't remember
how I solved the problem. About 12 years ago or so I removed the botched wiring under the drivers bolster.
I needed the room to install gauges attached to the bottom of the bolster.

Took a very long time to figure out the wiring so that I didn't miss anything that would permanently screw things up.
I lucked out, they had 8 relays wired in a spaghetti pattern to make the hazards flash when the alarm went off.
    Professional dealership bullshit.

In addition, the fucking salesman punched the right fender to show the sensitivity of the alarm.
Yup, you guessed it, he put a small size dent in the fender. What an asshole. Well they fixed the dent but
I was not a happy camper. During those days I was afraid of the radio thefts.

That's why I recommended tie back and forget it.

I just had to vent after all these years.

    Bob,

I found the 18-20" of wire went nowhere. I cut that back and zip tied the box to the bottom of the OBC relay. It looks nice and tiddy AND the car starts! BONUS!
