So I have been tracking down an issue in my 02 530i that I recently acquired. It had sat for two years when I purchased it, and the radio has not worked since I got it running. The fuse for the radio circuit in the trunk on slot 56 kept blowing, so I removed and disconnected the headunit. But that did not fix it, the fuse still popped the second it put it in.
After doing some research I figured out my car is non dsp but has an amp so I figured out where the amp was and decided to unplug it and see if its the issue.

The plugs were a bitch to get out especially the right one that supplies power, took pliers to pull it out. But now that its unplugged the fuse no longer blows and I have 12v on the yellow constant at the headunit harness. So the amps definitely the issues but finding one is gonna be a bitch, and now I'm using an aftermarket headunit. So id like to just bypass the amp all together if possible, my buddy said something about bridging the speaker wires. But is it possible to even do that if so which wires, and will there be any issues?
I've got the head unit ready to go in so if I do have to get a new amp where could I get on? does it have to look the same or just have the same connections all the oem amps I see are sliver with a diffrent fin design?

Can't bypass and still have a functioning radio. It controls crossovers for all speakers and provides the signal for the speakers. You could easily replace with a used amplifier. Ebay would be a good bet, make sure to match partnumbers incase you have Nokia subs in the deck or if you buy one that has incorrect pinout.

The black amp that you have is the base unit. If you replace it try to get a hi-fi amp (silver). The sound quality is much better. Both are readily available on eBay, and also inexpensive at the salvage yards if you have one near you.

Like seagreen said the amp has built in crossovers for all of the speakers. It actually has 10 separate amps inside for all the speakers in the car.
If you replace the amp you’ll need crossover networks.
Junkyard or eBay.
Thanks all I just purchased this amp on ebay.

It is used out of a 02 530i the same as my car so I shouldn't have any issues! Once I put it in ill post an update.
