Looking at going to Daytona in a couple of weeks with NASA SE. The E36 is a fairly well prepped track rat HPDE car, no longer street driven. It's M3 suspension in the corners, GC coilovers, etc but still has the M52 in it. Running 225/45/17 RS4s. The S52 is still on the stand waiting for winter. I've been running a 3.64 LSD and haven't run out of gear at VIR, RRR, CMP, etc. Driving style is a bit too conservative. Running the stock ecu with Shark Tune, made 200 hp at the wheels on Bimmer Performance Centers dyno a couple of years back.
Has anyone run both VIR and Daytona? Curious how much faster (top speed) Daytona will be then VIR? I've got an unproven unknown history 3.38 sitting in the garage but would like to just leave the 3.64 in it. But I also don't want to spend 3 days bouncing off the limiter in 5th either.
Thanks.
Well?
What was your experience?
We run 3.64 as well, yet to experience a flat-out track.
Advise.
For HPDE, and 200HP, it won't matter at Daytona. Seriously.
The 3.64 wasn't an issue. With a little more Hp, and a little more talent, it would have been. I was just getting to the end of my Rev range at start-finish, just before braking into 1. It was a fun weekend but I probably wouldn't make the long tow again. Call it a bucket list, every car guy/gal needs to do once. It's not the most interesting track, and doesn't compare to say a VIR for instance.
If I was setting up a race car, this is one of the things I would be trying to do as I set up gearing for a particular track - redline at the end of the fastest straight.
