Broken intake air temperature sensor cable? - 325i

I was replacing the CCV when I noticed what looked like a broken connector. After researching it looks like the "intake air temperature sensor cable" but it looks like the cable has snapped off completely. I don't see any cable nor the connector.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Welcome to the Forum!

I think with the MS45 and MS45.1 systems aka MY-04 and newer, it was moved to the MAF only. What you are looking at is just a plug in the intake as they didn't change the mold for the newer cars perhaps. I would see about lifting the CCV hose and see if you can find if there is an opening in the plastic injector connection for the plug.

While I can find the sensor in https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_2879, sometimes even it can be wrong as well as TIS: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...rature/XeXq1gU

Ah ok I see what you're saying. I opened up the hood and there was no wires I could find anywhere. Cleaned out the inside of the hole and looks like it might just be a plug like you said.

Also pulled out the MAF sensor to see if I could determine if the intake temp sensor was moved to the MAF unit.

Looks about right to me, it will be the Ball looking thing IIRC, and the blade will be the air flow sensor.

I see. So like you mentioned, my engine has the mold of the previous version where the air sensor would've gone but that actual sensor itself is now in the MAF housing?

Yes, with change from MS43 to MS45 and MS45.1, there wasn't a need for the air temp inside the middle of the intake, for the MAF would get a more accurate reading IIRC.

Now on all this I am assuming you are located in the State, and have a North American BMW.

Yes, in NA. Btw, how do you find out if you're car is MS43/MS45 or MS45.1?

By the year, for MY-03 and newer will have MS45, and the M-56 will have MS45.1 Now like my wagon, which is MY-05 has MS45.1 as I found out the first time I plugged into INPA. The early E-60 and uses the MS45 and I think the MY-03 325i variant also used the MS45.

When ISTA does it's auto connect, that too will tell you what DME the car is using, IMO you get more data from MS45.1 than you do MS45

You can also get the info from Realoem.com, as it too can tell you which one what DME under the Engine Electrical, and control units.

Oh, I see. So MY stands for manufacture year and MSXX is the engine computer system that used for a specified year?

MY = Model year, which can vary at times, for in say June of 03, they started to produce MY-04 cars. Typically the MY starts in October, but like noted before, it can start as early as June.

You have a MS45 and there is no separate intake air temp sensor. Since they did not redesign the manifold, there is a dead plug - it is removable.

If you look at the wire connector for your MAF, it will be flat and have 5 wires. Prior models will have 3 wires (extra two are for the IAT sensor built into your MAF)
