just bought this car and needing a 2nd key. BMW dealer says it will be $480 for a programmed key. WTH? Please advise. thanks
Call around and go on line to check other dealers
Try the bmw mini parts store in Cincinnati. It’s a dealer. You’ll need to provide a picture of your registration and a picture of your drivers license.
You bought a BMW, not a Toyota Corolla. What did you expect? Just because you paid 1/4 of the original price of the vehicle doesn't mean that parts are going to be 1/4 of the cost. I do think $480 is a little on the high side, but it's not unreasonable, especially if your car has comfort access and the key has to be taught in to the vehicle.

yes, I'm well aware the BMW will have more expensive parts Capt. Look down your nose. I didn't buy it so I could act better than other people. $480 is ridiculous for a key for ANY car.
And no, Captain I'm better than anyone else, it's NOT comfort access.

And the dealership is the only place to get a real bmw key. So call around and see if one dealer will beat the others price. But you’re not getting a key for less than at least $2-300. I bet dealer cost is over $250 if I had to guess. These keys are laser cut by VIN, by BMW NA in New Jersey. Not by the dealership. There’s no way around it. Cough up the dough and buy a key.
