    Parking break malfunction error.

I have been getting the following errors on my 2013 BMW X5. The dealer says it is the module which connects to the rear brakes. They want $1200 to replace. How can I be sure this is the issue as I have never used the electronic parking brake nor the auto hold feature.i recently had the rear pads changed with new sensor wire.

The early units had a plastic gear that would break you could search online for the part but it could be expensive

Had a similar problem on Der Adler (F15) X5. Replacement costs $1200 Us plus fitting. No reconditioned units appeared to be available. Bought a good used one with the same part number from a breaker. Had my indy fit it and cleared all the fault codes with my Foxwell 530. As I seldom use the either park or auto-hold the $400 it cost total was acceptable.
There are guys who offer repairs and videos on YT of some of those repairs being completed. From reading the boards some have found solder joins disconnected and a quick resolder cured the problem. Never had that problem with the old handbrake lever! So much for progress.
