Hey guys and gals.
I've found a 2003 525it wagon auto for sale near me. He is asking $1800cdn with 250k km and a leak coming from the transmission. Ad says that it has been sitting for a year since the leak started and had a few spots of surface rust showing, so he sanded and painted those spot to stop the rust while it sat.
I'm not concerned about the rust but the transmission leak is a little worry some. I've been searching the forum here about transmission issues and have found a confidents, but the seller doesn't know where exactly the leak is coming from. I know I'd have to remove the transmission to really find the culprit and that's not a big deal.
So what do you all think, is it worth buying a wagon with a tranny leak or just wait to see if I can find another one?
Thanks in advance.
525i is a 5hp19 - I like wagons, so buy it. But expect to swap for a new/used trans, If the leak is terminal.
I really like wagons too. That's why I'm interested in this car even with a leaky tranny. The owner said that he thinks it might be a torque converter but I know a more in-depth look will be needed
Does it move?
Yeah, wagons are cool, but with rust, leaky, maybe bad transmission, torque converter, 250,000 miles, save the car, but get the price down to $1000 to $1200.

He says the car runs good and shifts good still. Just leaking a little bit of fluid. The rust is very minimal.
250k - kilometers- 160k miles. Pictures?
I will get some pictures from the ad. But I'm not sure how to add pictures on here. I guess I could put the link up of the ad instead

Actually, the last of the E39 wagons were still being made halfway into 2004. When BMW stupidly named that moron Chris Bangle head of design, they didn’t have an E60 wagon drawn up yet.
