I can't catch a break. This happened today

Sigh...so I snapped my key in half while locking the door. I have both pieces and now I need to see if any locksmith locally can help cut a new key. They all seem to shy away when I say "BMW" though this key seems like a standard key. So annoyed

Steel keys are hard to cut and damage typical locksmith grinders.

Buy a new expensive already cut key from BMW, might be worth it.

53 for a key already cut for your car. BMW has a few of them and the key code from the VIN can get it. The steel key is about 20 at the dealer (USD) and can be cut for your car based on the key or the code, I think.

    You need a steel key

Start using the trunk lock to lock-unlock the car much less torque needed to turn the key.

Thanks. After getting quotes from locksmiths ranging from $127-250 CAD I went to BMW and ordered a new key for $64.49 CAD incl tax. They said it should be here in a couple of days

Or,... install a remote lock/unlock in the car. Cheap and very effective. Easy install.

Any basic remote lock/unlock system will work and not much $. Shoot me a PM, I'll running a single key W/remote that I modified to work on my e28. Shoot me a PM with your cell # and I'll send images.
