A local upholstery shop drove my car and burned the clutch. Now I am switching to a single mass flywheel. Does the throw out bearing have a clip that holds it to the clutch fork? anyone have a diagram? Thanks

There is a spring clip that does go inside the bell housing, but that is typically for the fork. Also would be a good idea to replace the Pivot pin for they are made out of plastic while you are in there.

So a person from the upholstery shop burned your clutch? Was the clutch on the way out before you handed the keys to the shop? How many miles on the clutch? Sounds like the upholstery shop should chip in some free interior work to compensate you for the clutch.
to answer the other question - yes, diagrams exist - www.realoem.com

There is not a clip or anything holding the throw-out bearing to the fork. And why switch to a single mass? Cost? How many miles on the original dual mass? Are you sure it needs to be scrapped?

I was going to have the headliner done by this shop. So I drove there and got an estimate, since they are basically the only upholstery shop on Guam I had no choice. I told the owner I will just bring the car back after I arrange someone to pick me up. He said no need I will drive your car coming back I can drop you off. I said are you sure you know how to drive a stick shift? He said yes in Vietnam I drive for long time.....when we got to my house he moved to the drivers seat. I watched him try to leave and he could not find a gear. I went over and saw he was trying to shift without stepping on the clutch. I was worried at this point. I told him to step on the clutch and shift, he took off and 3rd gear slipping the clutch. I was really worried.
After two days I went pick up the car and left his shop not even a corner away it would not move. I thought my worry was confirmed.
The car I just bought 2 days prior to this and it ran fine. The person I bought it from I knew and he took care of his cars. Now it has been more than 2 months and the car is still down. I ordered all the shifter rebuilt kit from ECS and the single mass flywheel conversion from Turner.
Unfortunately the throw out bearing in the kit is smaller than the original. So now I have to wait again for the correct parts to arrive.
I only had the car for 2 days.....
The throw out bearing will turn when it is mounted on the input shaft of the transmission and turn out of place with the fork?

Being on Guam and so far away form shops and parts. I decided to make sure there were no hiccups. That's the issue no one really knows what to replace and what could be re-used. I had to order the parts before taking down the transmission so there was no way to check yet it took 2 months for the parts to arrive......
In fact I was trying to buy locally the throw out bearing and nobody even had one there are very few stick shift 325i's on this island

Should I replace the rear main seal on the engine side? Is it hard to replace?

You could replace the rear main seal while you are in there, but from my experience if it hasn't leaked yet, I wouldn't mess with it. If you are interested in see what it takes, have a read: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...covers/BB058mu
Yeah, I wouldn't have let the guy drive away as it was clear he didn't know how to drive a manual and took a taxi or had a friend pick me up from the shop.
