The old plug didn't reach the light so I acquired a new to me pig tail.
Snipped off the old on and crimped on a new one. And while I was in there I found out why one screw wouldn't screw. One of the nut clips, or what ever they are called, had slipped out of position.
The light now comes on when the hatch is open and shines red to the rear and white down. It does turn off when the hatch closes. I'm guessing that the LCM is reading the hatch latch and powering the light as appropriate.
Not totally satisfied with crimp job. The smallest ones I have, the red ones, seem to be to big. I need to pick up a new wire gage, I can't find mine. I had to over drip them and then cover them in liquid electrical tape.
It’s always better to solder and heat shrink
