    Exciter wire questions

    Hey,

long time, no talk lol. It's been a minute on the forums but I have come back with questions! I am currently not getting any juice to the battery and the light in the cluster is not coming on anymore. I was working on replacing the voltage regulator and through some things I don't want to confess, I think I messed up my exciter wire to my alternator (small blue wire?). The snap terminal just sheared right off with how tight it was.

The wire is still there so I was planning on just crimp/soldering another ring terminal. My question is if that doesn't work, is there any options on just replacing the whole wire? Is it even replaceable or am I just SOL? I'm having one hell of a time figuring the actual part # for it. I did go on and replace the regulator and I only changed the alternator belt with that when I was working. So that leads me to think it's the wire. I just want a running 7 again.

Have a look at the wiring diagrams, on my M70 the blue exciter cable goes from the alternator into a metal tube on the left side of the engine along with the thick cable from alternator to the B+ pole, and also with the cables from the engine oil sensor, they come out from that pipe in the area of the B+ pole and there is a plug, see the pics on my website, all this is from 11/88 750 M70 http://twrite.org/shogunnew/fixes/electricalpower.html

just crimp/solder another ring terminal. Also check the plug on the other end at the B+ terminal, see my pics, that plug often breaks and as you can see I replaced it, not available from BMW. Bosch 1 928 402 452, BOSCH Ignition System Plug Sleeve Connector 1928402452

Shogun to the rescue once again! I was being dumb and completely missed the part on RealOEM. Looks like it's relatively the same setup for m30s. One step closer!
