    Interior lights always on

The interior lights of my 84 733i seem to remain on even after the car is off and all the doors are locked.

Are the interior lights tied to the ignition? Does it have its own delay switch? Or am I nuts and is there a button that keeps them on and turns off delay?

In the meantime, I pulled the fuse to avoid a battery drain

    Thanks

SOLVED: Thank you yert315! I did not know there was a rocker switch to switch between interior light modes!

Check all your door switches. If one is broken, it may think the door is open all the time. You’ll see the switch on the inside of the door frame near the hinge on the front doors and i believe near the latch on the rear doors.

Thank you yert315. How would I identify if it's broken? Visual inspection? I will go take a look shortly.

    Thanks again

I've double checked the switches and they are all good. I closed three doors and left one open and clicked the switch by hand and I can hear the relay click. Meaning the circuit is complete (the other switches are in the closed position).

So the switches and the relay appear to be working fine.

Is there anything else I should look into?

The ignition switch of this car is broken so the previous owner rigged a push button start. Even without the key I can crank (but not start) the car. Meaning there's always power running/car is always in the "ON/crank position" and the key simply turns on the fuel pump.

If this makes sense, then I will need to take apart the push to start button and get an ignition switch and put it back to the way it's meant to be.

    Thoughts?

I jumped the gun on my reply. There should be an interior light switch on the kick panel. 3-position. Constant on, door-on, and constant off.

Thanks yert315. I always wondered what that switch was lol. I will go check it out shortly. It's almost 3AM here, but now I can't sleep after reading your reply and need to check it out lol
