    2006 X5 4.4i 4x4 AND SELF LEVELING INACTIVE!!

So the 4x4 light has been on for about a month now. Resetting it with the steering wheel worked for a little while but no longer does.

But just the other day the great “self leveling suspension inactive” light came on. Parked the car and walked around it to find the passenger side rear completely inflated to max height. Took off the tire and greased the plungers on the sensor like I read, nothing. Checked the 3 fuses and all are in working order. Finally decided to pull the trunk apart and release the air myself. Ride height is back to normal now, but the light is still on.

Not sure if I posted this in the right spot as I’m new to here. I’ve looked for quite a while for answers and haven’t come up with any to fix the problem. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

But the compressor never ran again after it jacked all the way up. That’s where I’m confused.

Ride Height Sensor Arm Pointed Inward:

If the sensor was working before you did any suspension work, and the wheel carrier was moved up or down significantly, the ride level sensor arm can flip to point inward, causing the self level inactive error. All you need to do is, take the wheel off, support the wheel carrier with a jack and position it up or down to give the level sensor arm some slack, take the lower 10m nut off with a socket while bracing the inner nut with a 10mm spanner, flip the arm to point outward, and reassemble. Tightening torque is 9NM. Clear any faults before driving to erase the error.
