Known good mirror control modules for M5-style folding mirror retrofit?

    Hey everyone!

Ok so I bought the repro E39 M5 style mirrors, along with the correct door switch and (what I thought) was the correct folding window module. However, upon install, the passenger side mirror won't fold. I confirmed the mirror actually works by connecting directly to the drivers switch, so the problem is the module.

This led me down a Rabbit Hole and I'm hoping the forum can help.

So the real M5 Control Module that folds the mirrors is 61-35-6-904-243

This is what RealOEM shows for both the E39 M5 as well as the e38 with folding mirror option.

But here is the problem - this is also the exact number that RealOEM shows for the NON-folding mirror option for every single E38 and E39. And that P/N supercedes to a bunch of different modules and this is what pulls up for every single car. Problem is, of course, these other modules don't appear to have the folding function.

When I search on e-bay (where I got my module) 61-35-6-904-249 this was listed as a folding mirror module. Of course, today I found out it's not.

If you search any of the alternative P/N's listed they aren't folding mirrors, either.

However, I do see some modules online with the P/N 61-35-6-904-247 which claim to come from an M5. However, that number is NOT part of the chain in RealOEM. If you put that number in, however, it says that it's the superceded version of 61-35-6-924-933 which I don't see for sale anywhere.

So what's the deal with modules that will actually fold the mirrors? Is there a known good list?

I didn’t check any of your p/n’s. Did you also change the pass door module to the M5 module?
If not, that is why the pass side doesn’t work.

I'm aware of the module change - that's the point of the post. What are the known good modules that actually provide the function because REALOEM cross-references the M5 module to MANY other modules which don't work.

You need to purchase passenger door control module from 740, I had the same reaction, but purchase the correct part on ebay last night

For the pass side I bought the one on the right in the pic below.
IDK why the p/n on the module doesn't match the p/n I ordered.
