I mean ... it's a high price, but damn, a 3.2L aluminum N/A engine would be pretty sweet, lol (worth the 50 lbs? only you can decide )

It looks pretty good to me. Throw in the 4 bolt mains, upgrade head studs, dry-sump, and stroker crank. Should handle some serious power.

Love the $9999.95 price. That saved nickel makes all the difference.

    VAC Billet Block

I was pointed to the VAC Instagram page, where it states they have a smooth exterior surface block for NA applications and the external rib reinforced block for boosted applications.

The great thing about CNC on demand is that they don't need to inventory these things. And whatever modeling that they did to design the new block probably made it really easy to create a "low strength" alternate.

Does VAC make that statement anywhere? The OEM single Vanos aluminum M52 block is 50lbs lighter than the iron one (as verified by me on a scale), but is the VAC one a full 50lbs lighter than the OEM iron one?

With in house CAD (CAD Stress Analysis) the smooth surface variant was probably the first cut, with stiffening ribs added for the strength required for high HP applications.

Are you referring to the alloy block version of the M52 installed in the Z3?
I would not expect the VAC offering to be as light as the cast alloy OE block.

But it does sound like the VAC billet block addresses the head bolt issue in the BMW variant with deeply threaded studs.

Yeah, no. It was just a guess. No idea what the VAC one weighs. I doubt you'd be buying this for the 50lbs though.

You're right, I wouldn't personally. But I'm sure there are those at the pointy end of road racing that would.
