    LL01 FE vs LL01

My 2017 X5 N55 says I'm supposed to use LL01FE oil but it seems that the FE is just for Fuel Economy and I've actually heard it's a weaker oil than LL01. Can I just use a regular LL01 oil or do I need to get the FE variant?

Sure you can, it's just the "preferred" oil for that motor.

Click here, and scroll down to your motor, and you will see all the oil that BMW says is okay: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...engine/1PSryV8

Thanks. It just scared me in the owners manual when it said you may only use up to 1 qt of ll01 if ll01fe is unavailable

Normally it's best not to mix oil types and manufactures. While you can do a quart now and again, it's just the oil can be built differently and not work the same, so that's why they say in case of emergency, as BMW doesn't want to be held responsible.
