Noisy N43 engine 2500 rpm

I have a E81 with a N43 engine, but quite some time now the engine is quite noisy around 2500 rpm. There is a constant humming noise present, especially when the engine is under load. At higher RPMs the engine is much more quiet. Unfortunately at 100 km/h in 6th gear you get 2500 rpm, so it is quite annoying. Sometimes the noise suddenly disappears out of nowhere and the car sounds great. But when driving on the highway most of the times you hear a constant noise which stops for a millisecond and then continues. You can’t feel the hiccups, only hear them. It seems to come from the front left side.
