Recently purchased a 2017 BMW 540i xdrive with 27,000 miles. This vehicle is wayyyy more advanced than my Infiniti g37x i owned. What are the top five things that I should know to take advantage of this machine.
When I bought my 2017 a week ago, I spent parts of two days reading the manual and in the car getting familiar with iDrive, Navigation, Apple Carplay, and all of the high tech bells and whistles and how to use them.
The next decision you make is Run Flats or Conventional for a smoother ride, especially on choppy streets. With non Run Flat (conventional) Tires, you need an emergency provision - I have a Kensun Air Compressor (compact and fits on side of trunk), Tireject Kits, Valve Remover, etc. (for Conventional Tires). Go to TireRack if you are exploring these options. Lots of discussion re RFT versus Non RFTs.
Then you need to decide how important tunes are and whether the system works for your ears. You have H/K or standard, or Bowers... If you want to upgrade speakers, consider BavSound - plug and play for BMW's. Look for discussion regarding adjusting the Equalizer - it helps.
Then ask yourself whether U R a car detailer type DIY that wants the swirls out of your car. Do you take care of it yourself. Or do you just take it to a car wash? AutoGeek, Zainobros, et al for product.
Check out Weathertech for trunk liner

I just bought my 2017 540i Xdrive with 47K miles on it. Love the Harmon Kardon system... much better than I thought it would be. Also love the touchscreen, a nice (and finally) addition to the Beemer AV system. I have brand new Pirelli run-flats, but also have the suspension dampening package, so it is very smooth - will likely put reg tires on it next. My only gripe, as is already captured in a different post here, is the sport seats. Not very comfortable at all, but I'm finally getting close to a seat position that will work for me.
