Plastic cut on front lower bumper grille

Somebody cut out a plastic square from the front lower grille of my bumper on my 2016 BMW 228i. I’m not sure what the motive of doing this is. If anyone has had this happen to them or knows why someone would do this, it would be appreciated if you shared. I have a picture but I’m not sure how to post a picture on this thread. Thanks.

Maybe a missing flap? For example Flap, towing eye, http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/F2.../m_trim_front/
