Hi everyone. I have a 1989 BMW 325i E30. I recently changed the battery and I have the dreaded “Code” on the factory radio. I do have the code which is 33426.
When I go to enter the code, nothing happens. Radio keeps displaying code.
However, it seems as though the number 4 and 6 buttons aren’t working.
So if I enter the code, I get no beeps but if I start over again, and press 33, I get the loud beep. Same thing if I press 22 or 55. So pretty much the radio is picking up 33233 which is obviously the wrong code.
I have tried resetting the radio by leaving key in position one and radio on for 90 minutes.
I took apart the radio faceplate and cleaned the buttons with some rubbing alcohol and a soft brush.
Still not working.
Any suggestions please? Thank you in advance!
Hi,
You'll need to find a place that still overhauls the now very old head units and see if they can fix the buttons and/or perhaps remove the need for a code etc. It's a 30+ year old unit, so it's also possible that some of the electronics are beginning to fail - it's had a decent 30 year innings!
Perhaps post in the E30/E28/E23 sections to see if any other owners know of any such places, it might also be necessary to send it abroad too.
Please do update here if you get a fix, overhaul etc and provide the name of the place/specialist that did it !
Cheers, Dennis!
