    Crankshaft issues, revisited.

    Hi

I have a 2.8L with starting issues, and have codes for both crank and camshaft sensors. I have replaced both with Hella OEM versions, but it only seemed to worsen the issues. The sensor is mounted on the front.
i have found a recall that involves a new sensor and a wiring harness, that uses the hole in the rear of the engine. However, the serial of my chassis is not on the list. The new sensor is supplied 12v instead of 5v, and should be more stable in operation.
Are there anyone on the forum that has gone from a front mounted sensor to a rear mounted, using this harness?

    Link to the recall:

That bulletin is for US spec M52s. They do not have a CKP on the timing cover; only one in the block. If you changed a sensor on the front, either you changed the wrong sensor, or you do not have a US spec M52.

As I understand it, the recall replaced the sensor with different type, and a wiring loom providing 12v rather than 5v from the DME.
According to the dealer and many posts here, is the specific DME extremely picky about sensors, clearly recommending genuine BMW.

The fact that there doesn’t seem to be a recall on the european spec, with sensor on the timing cover, is not proof that it shouldn’t work (and make the sensor less prone to failure, and less prone to make the DME make stupid adaptations causing increased emmisions).
My block has the hole on the block, so essentially it should be possible, providing the sensor has something to sense?

Randy, Check the poster's location. I don't think he has a US spec engine.

That is exactly the point I was making. Unless he has a US spec car, the US *only* bulletin does not apply.
