B-) hello all, just wanted to type that im excited-ish to be part of the bmw world (and i hope this is the correct place/page to post a what's up) I have recently acquired a 2001 Bmw 525i wagon. It is 5 speed, a horrible color called sahara beige? and came with 170,000. the car sat on concrete for...years? there is a lot of dryrot, a little bit of rust (which means theres a bunch of rust) but has new tires. It so far is a beast of a vehicle, needing only rear brake overhaul, and a battery to get it going. im excited to get to learn more about it, bmws and the wonderful feeling of the straight 6 (ive only ever driven 4 cyl and v6) im now also 99 posts away from having a totally sweet avatar!!!!

Welcome to the forum 2nd2nOn3. A 5 speed, sweet.
Check the metal that the jack pads are mounted to, they are known to completely rust out on cars that live in the rust belt states.

Welcome to the form, I originally did not like the color of my wagon (Glacier Green, in fact it still is a love hate relationship with the color even after a year and a half of ownership). If you need some motivation on what your car can look like with a ton of money invested look up the "e39 427" on YouTube, I believe same color. I love brown colors and savannah beige in my opinion is one of the better non traditional e39 colors. Everything you will ever need to know on your car is on this forum, you just need to learn how to search it, (JimLev is the man btw)
Here is a quick video of a fellow beige wagon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8l_8rp-fek
^_that’s Brandon’s car.
Here’s more of the E39 and a few others he’s had after selling the iT.

Welcome to the family of E39 Touring owners. The little 6 once moving is a nice road eater. Enjoy. Remember there are a lot of DIY material on this site as everything you will face, someone had that issue before.
Get all the deferred maintenance completed before adding "go fast or tunes" upgrades, as the wagon needs to start, stop, and drive every day.
