I have my son's car that he left for dead, and i'm trying to get it going again. His girlfriend was driving one day and it just stopped shifting. You can feel it shifting and I can see it shifting when it's on lift. The tires will even spin in each gear when up in the air, but they won't accelerate with the accelerator. When i put it in reverse they spin backwards, and stop in neutral. When i put it on the ground NOTHING! just revs up in all gears. I changed the transmission fluid today, no help. Any Ideas would be appreciated.
Automatic or standard? RWD or ix?

Sorry, standard RWD
Look at the driveshaft when trying to drive it with wheels on the ground or on blocks; if it isn’t turning, then that narrows it down to a failed clutch or an internal transmission issue (less likely). If the driveshaft is turning then the issue could be a broken half-shaft or an internal differential problem.

If you put in gear and the car is on the ground and let out the clutch and nothing happens it’s probably the clutch start with the most common issues and how many miles are on it
bms5, the wheels will turn when shifting gears while on the lift, They won't accelerate when car revs up. so I'm leaning towards clutch at this point.

The car has 130k on it, could it possibly be the slave cylinder needs to be bled, would anyone try this prior to replacing clutch?
If the clutch had air in it and needed bleeding, it would have the opposite effect. The clutch would be permanently engaged and shifting into any gear would be impossible without the engine switched off. Also, the clutch pedal typically goes to the floor and stays there when there is air in the system.
Trying to drive it with weight on the wheels is my suggestion to determine where the slippage is under load but I’m thinking you have a clutch failure from what you’re describing.

Sorry to ask this, but if the girlfriend couldn't drive a stick, it is very easy to burn out a clutch, especially if there were no problems before she drove it.
You are describing a clutch fail or a torque converter fail. Just because the tires turn when there is no load does not mean anything.
