    Grey Headliner replacement.

If anyone is trying to find the best "Headliner" material match for the BMW 850 Light Grey interior, I used OX Grey by Larry Dennis Company.
I am attaching pics to show my results. The four corner pieces are original BMW light grey, which I purchased brand new.
The light grey which I purchased is not perfect.....but pretty damn good.

Why not do the A & C pillars also, to match? I did.

Thanks...would have done few things different with the sun roof...but otherwise I am happy with the outcome.

    Ox Grey Headliner

That is correct. The person I dealt with was Dolan. He sent me out multiple grey colors, and the OX Grey (PH-1808) matched the best. You can request him and tell him it's for a BMW.
You can ask him also to send a swatch of the color, but I spent a lot of time to get what I have now, to the closest color I could find.
Originally when I purchased my car, it was being sold on Ebay having the Headliner just been done.....Hack Job. The 4 pillars were broken at the snap inserts and cracked...it was put together with double sided sticky tape. So I ended up buying new corner pieces and decided to leave them factory color and OX Grey was the best in matching it.
Yes...you can copy the same color as the OX Grey on these corner pieces....good luck in taking off the new foam if you have new ones...and have fun taking off the original corner pieces....pending on where the car had it's life....down south the heat makes them brittle....but the south has the best no salted body.

P.S. The cost of the material was $31.00 + $13.00 shipping. I ended up getting 1.68 yards, but you should get a little more for any Boo Boo's....Ok Yogi... I wish I had done that.

Thank you again for the confirmation, and for sharing the amount of yardage you ordered.
I have a ‘92 with the same headliner and have been reluctant to go the microsuede route.

Yes, thank you for all the info. I need to do this as well, but right now I'm leaning towards the remove/clean original material route. I cleaned the C-pillars and they came out great with no size change (the plastic was shattered so worth a shot to test). When it goes poorly, I appreciate having the photos of a second option.

When I did mine, I wasn’t too keen on the “puffy” look of the foam backed headliner material. Stripped everything off the headliner, package shelf and pillar covers and directly glued grey ultra suede (no backing) onto those pieces. Went with black on the package shelf. Cost of materials was almost $70, but the car has a more modern look and feel to it. I am especially happy with not having the foam on the sunroof parts, as this is what helps speed up the failure of all those expensive moving parts.

I totally agree. You need to go with what you want. The C-pillars are a challenge, no matter how you look at it. You want to do it right....and bang...you have to deal with the pillars. Like I said, I wanted to go with the easiest way to do the job and new pillars come with foam, so I took the Ox-Grey choice. Hindsight, I would have completely removed the Sun /Moon roof mechanics out of the system and had it as a manual pullback shade, like you do on most sun-roofs. The automatic pullback of the interior is very wishy-washy, at its best and when it has any age to it, it becomes inoperable when you do the headliner replacement. You can get the sun/moon roof (whatever you call it) to be disabled without all the complicated gearings and still have the outside open up.
    Just my thoughts.

My personal taste leans more towards stock appearance.
My 850 only has 30k miles on it, so I’m trying to keep it as original looking as possible.
It has the original tape deck radio and trunk mounted cd changer. I’m currently working my way through a box of old tapes I recorded off the radio when I was in junior high school... makes me smile.
